Chris Matthews could barely conceal an overwhelming crush on Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) Tuesday night.

The liberal commentator gushed over the progressive firebrand’s supposed “mastery” of the political pulpit.

“Your speaking ability is really thrilling,” Matthews beamed. “You have a thrilling — you have a mastery,” Matthews said.

“When you’re making your point — this is not a comedy act when you’re doing it,” Matthews continued. “It’s damn good political salesmanship. It’s rhetoric of the best political kind. You get your audience riled up and you get them roused up,” he said.

She gets Matthews riled up and roused up too, apparently. Warren didn’t seem to mind, however — she was positively basking in the glow of Matthews’s compliment, an ear-to-ear smile plastered across her face.

Of course, Matthews is well-known for his excitement over the public-speaking skills of liberal Democrats. “I felt this thrill going up my leg,” Matthews said famously of then-Sen. Barack Obama in 2008. “I mean I don’t have that too often,” he added.

Now that Democrats are in desperate need of a new leader for their party, it seems that Warren has replaced Obama as the object of Matthew’s affection, and Matthews is once again feeling that “thrill” he experienced all those years ago.
