Obama at His BET Bash: ‘No Twerking Tonight’

President Obama got a big, sloppy, send-off kiss from famous black musicians, friends, family — and actor Bradley Cooper — in a special concert at the White House.

It was filmed a month ago in a tent on the South Lawn and the result, a TV special called “BET Presents Love & Happiness: An Obama Celebration,” aired Tuesday night — just as Obama himself was in Greece, where riots and attempts to firebomb the U.S. embassy were taking place in protest of his visit.

The BET concert was designed to be a “love letter to the president and first lady,” and it was just that — with performances from Jill Scott, Janelle Monaé, Common, Usher, Bell Biv DeVoe, The Roots, De La Soul, Yolanda Adams, Destiny’s Child’s Michelle Williams, Kierra Sheard, and former “Hamilton” star Leslie Odom Jr.

Samuel L. Jackson called Obama “our crown jewel.” Jesse Williams said the president and first lady’s “legacies were still being written.”

Angela Bassett called the political duo’s “out-loud love” inspiring. And Cooper remembered shooting “Hangover” movies during Obama’s first two elections. “So if we make ‘Hangover 4,’ you’ll stay?”

Obama waved that off, shaking his head.

“This event may be called Love & Happiness, but much to — I know — your sadness and regret, I will not be singing Al Green,” Obama deadpanned to the audience. “There will also be no twerking tonight — at least not by me. I don’t know about Usher.”

Obama, calling it the “final musical evening as president and first lady,” said that it was not just about “black music.”

“This is an essential part of the American experience,” he said. “It’s a mirror [of] who we are, and a reminder of who we can be.”

The election of Donald Trump proves that the mirror will show something else for the days ahead.
