Humana Inc. announced plans to write off what the company said it is still owed through the risk corridor premium stabilization program under the Affordable Care Act.

The program was intended to cushion insurers from extreme gains and losses in the early years of Obamacare. But on Nov. 10, 2016, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims ruled the ACA public exchange issuer agreements weren’t binding — they merely proposed how the program should work.

The company said Friday in a press release it anticipates the collection of approximately $8 million in risk corridor receivables outstanding as of Sept. 30, 2016, associated with the 2014 plan year. The reimbursement is based on information published by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on Nov. 18, 2016.
