The House of Commons of Canada has approved legislation to make the Canadian national anthem gender neutral. This legislation still needs to be approved by the Senate, but if it is, the second line of “O Canada” will change from “true patriot love, in all thy sons command” to “in all of us command,” Fox News reported.

The change was proposed by liberal lawmaker Mauril Belanger. He was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease in November 2015 and may not live to see it put in effect. The legislation was approved with a large majority, 225-74, Wednesday.

As the vote began, liberal lawmakers stood and applauded Belanger, while conservative lawmakers strongly opposed the bill.
