Officials in the Obama administration and liberal commentators who insist that the violence engulfing the world has nothing to do with Islam need only look at the death toll building around the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

On Tuesday — the 23rd day of Ramadan — terrorists attacked Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport, killing 41 people. While no one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, Turkish officials noted it bears the hallmarks of ISIS.

Islamic violence is a yearlong occurrence, but during the holy month of Ramadan that violence tends to reach epidemic levels. Indeed, some of the highest-profile and deadliest Islamic terror attacks have occurred during Ramadan.

Daniel Pipes, Islamic Terror Expert and President of the Middle East Forum, agreed the uptick in massacre is no coincidence.

“There appears to be a link between the upsurge in Islamist political violence and Ramadan,” Pipes said to LifeZette, “ISIS itself has made this connection.”

On June 26, 2015, Islamic militants gunned down 38 people at the tourist resort of Port El Kantaoui, Tunisia, in the deadliest attack in the country’s history. That same Ramadan, ISIS invaded the Kurdish village of Kobani, Iraq, slaughtering 103 of its residents, and Boko Haram militants massacred 97 people in Kukawa, Nigeria.

In 2014, Boko Haram celebrated Ramadan by burning five churches and killing roughly 100 people in Chibok, Nigeria.

The average increase in Islamic violence during the holiday is so noticeable that thereligionofpeace.com — a “pluralistic, nonpartisan” website which bravely catalogues every single incident of Islamic violence reported in the media — makes a point to feature on its home page the staggering death toll that occurs during Ramadan each year.

Ramadan 2016 isn’t yet over, and already there have been 181 attacks, claiming the lives of nearly 1,300 people. These include the attack in Orlando, Florida, the butchering of a French police chief and his wife that was livestreamed over the internet, and — as of yesterday — the attack in Istanbul.

The bloody reality of Ramadan only underscores the fundamental truth which the Obama administration and the left go to great lengths to ignore — Islam has a violence problem.

Despite Obama’s and others’ intellectually dishonest prevarications about the Crusades and the Inquisition, no other religion in history has inspired as many people to commit violence with as much frequency as Islam.

This violence may indeed be inherent to Islam and its ease at being turned to justify slaughter. Early Christianity and Buddhism spread through conversion, but from its very beginnings when Mohammed burst forth from Medina leading an army, Islam has been spread through violence and conquest.

Christ turned water into wine. Buddha reached enlightenment and abandoned his earthly body. Mohammed personally ordered the destruction of an entire Jewish tribe.

Istanbul is only Istanbul because the Turks conquered Christian Constantinople. Indeed, much of what many today think of as the Muslim world was the original Christian one. Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, Turkey — one by one these lands fell to the sword and crescent. The very word in English for one who murders a prominent figure — assassin — is derived from the name of an Islamic sect.

Whether it is the nearly 1,000 men of the Banu Qurayza tribe Mohammed personally had put to death, the 4,000 Jews murdered at Granada in 1066, the 100,000 Hindus murdered on a single day in 1399, or the recent shootings and bombings in Paris, Brussels, Orlando, and Istanbul — where there are minarets, massacres follow during Ramadan.
