The possible future first lady, Slovenian immigrant and former model Melania Trump, made a rare television appearance for her husband on the campaign trail and seems to be taking a more active role in the campaign process. And Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, a strong and powerful advocate for the GOP front-runner, has already held the spotlight on his behalf.

The women in Trump’s life belie claims that he is a misogynist. Particularly in the case of the reserved and demure Melania, they soften the rough edges of his public persona.

Poised and confident, Ivanka Trump is a business executive, mom, and all-around success story. She has been a critical part of her father’s campaign as she stumps for him in the early states. The glamorous Ivanka, 34, has an eloquence that her father lacks and is especially crucial in promoting her father’s campaign message among women voters.

Even those who are turned off by Donald Trump can’t deny that he has raised an intelligent and classy young woman.

Ivanka appears to be the powerhouse in the Trump family. She serves as an executive vice president of the Trump organization, has her own jewelry and clothing line, and is the author of the 2010 book “The Trump Card: Playing to Win in Work and Life.” She was selected to introduce her father when he made his formal campaign announcement last June and was touted by him as his leading advisor on women’s health and women.

While many candidates’ spouses are quick to jump to the podium for their significant other, Melania has been relatively silent on the campaign trail. That’s an interesting choice, since she has a lot of appeal both as a woman and an immigrant — two demographics the media accuses Trump of not succeeding with.

Back in November, the Trump family — including Melania — sat down with Barbara Walters for a televised interview, which was the first time Melania had made public comments about her husband’s campaign. Walters noted that Mrs. Trump had been noticeably absent from the campaign trail until that moment.

“It’s my choice not to be there, I support my husband 100 percent,” said Melania. “But we have a 9-year-old son together, Barron, and I’m raising him. This is the age he needs a parent at home.”

Who do you think would win the Presidency?

The former model is the real estate developer’s third wife. Polished and graceful, she speaks four languages. If Trump wins the presidency, Melania would be only the second foreign-born First Lady (the first was John Quincy Adam’s wife, Louisa, who was born in the U.K.). While Melania Trump is very quiet, that reticence complements her husband’s demeanor —he’s just a tad more boisterous.

But in a candid interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Feb. 24, Melania discussed her husband’s perception and treatment of women. “They’re treated equal,” she said. “I see him in life. He treats women the same as men.” She added, “If you’re a woman or a man, it’s no different, you’re human.” Her personal relationship with the GOP front-runner certainly paints a more likable and palatable picture of her husband, a side that many may not see.

When pressed by host Mika Brzezinski about her husband’s immigration plan, she defended him. “I don’t feel he insulted the Mexicans,” said Melania Trump. “He said illegal immigrants. He didn’t talk about everybody.”

But Brzezinski asked Mrs. Trump about her own immigration experience; the former model said she followed the law. “I never thought to stay here without papers,” she said. “I had a visa, I traveled every few months back to the country to Slovenia to stamp the visa. I came back, I applied for the green card, I applied for the citizenship later on after many years of green card. So I went by (the) system, I went by the law. And you should do that. You should not just say, ‘Let me stay here and whatever happens, happens.'”

Making brief remarks on the campaign trail after her husband’s big victory in South Carolina, Melania Trump told the crowd at his election night rally how her husband will be the “best president.” Some are now wondering whether she might be opening herself up to be more vocal during the hotly contested primary season.
