LifeZette Editor-in-Chief Laura Ingraham warned Thursday that President Donald Trump’s pointed criticism of the House Freedom Caucus could risk alienating crucial allies.

“I think it’s really, really unhelpful to Donald Trump’s ultimate agenda to slam the very people who are going to be propping up his border wall … all the things he wants to do on immigration, on trade,” Ingraham said on “Special Report” on Fox News.

Earlier on Thursday, a frustrated Trump took to Twitter to blame the bloc of conservative congressmen for the failure of the leadership’s health care bill the week before. The president suggested he could support efforts to drive members of the caucus from their seats in 2018.

“The Freedom Caucus will hurt the entire Republican agenda if they don’t get on the team, & fast. We must fight them, & Dems, in 2018!” Trump tweeted Thursday.

Subsequent tweets singled out specific members of the caucus.

“If @RepMarkMeadows, @Jim_Jordan and @Raul_Labrador would get on board we would have both great healthcare and massive tax cuts & reform,” Trump tweeted. “Where are @RepMarkMeadows, @Jim_Jordan and @Raul_Labrador?” Trump continued.

Ingraham said many of these conservative House members were the most vocal defenders of Trump during the low moments of his presidential campaign.

“I will tell you where Mark Meadows was in October, 2016, when top Republicans were on conference calls … urging Donald Trump to step aside because of the controversy with the Billy Bush tapes,” said Ingraham. “Mark Meadows was saying, ‘No, Paul Ryan. You should be supporting the man who’s going to be our next president and get on board with Donald Trump,'” she continued.

“Meadows and Mo Brooks and these guys in the Freedom Caucus, when Ryan and company wanted to cut and run on candidate Trump, they stood by his side,” Ingraham said. “I don’t know where he thinks he’s going to get his friends on those issues unless he completely flips to become more of a Democrat.”
