Black leaders in the U.S. are pushing back against the claim by the Obama administration and LGBT advocacy groups that advancing transgender rights and other sexual-identity issues is a civil rights matter.

“The true goal here is to eliminate gender, God, and the traditional family from America.”

“This is tilting at windmills and hoping people will buy into the comparison — and many are,” said Project 21’s Stacy Washington, a former school board member, an Emmy-nominated TV personality, and a radio talk show host in St. Louis, Missouri. Project 21 is the black leadership group of the National Center for Public Policy Research, based in Washington, D.C.

“In the true civil rights battles that black Americans fought, society was incredibly restrictive,” Washington told LifeZette. “Blacks were prevented from [getting] good jobs and a decent education — they had to learn from different textbooks than whites. The term ‘civil rights’ deserves more respect than likening that battle to transgenderism — what many think of as a mental disorder. Being openly gay or transgender is a choice. Being black isn’t.”

Nadra Enzi, an anti-crime activist and member of Project 21 from Louisiana, said in a statement issued by the NCPPR, “The fact that co-conspirators in this farce include a bi-racial president of the United States who self-identifies as black, and the second black U.S. attorney general, speaks volumes about how far some have strayed from the straight and narrow path pioneered by the civil rights movement, and the moral culture which produced it.”

Writer Derryk Green, who holds a master’s in theology from Fuller Theological Seminary, said in the Project 21 statement, “On its own merits, advancing this new and destructive social morality is problematic. That Barack Obama has done so by attaching this insanity to the legacy of civil rights, specifically that of Jim Crow segregation, trivializes everything the brave men and women experienced and sacrificed in the pursuit of social, economic and legal equality.”

“The true goal here is to eliminate gender, God, and the traditional family from America,” Washington said. “That’s how you destroy a nation — selling the idea that men and women are interchangeable and that marriage is old-fashioned.”

“What I find flabbergasting is that the men and women making these decisions are in traditional families — married, with kids,” Washington continued. “President Obama lives in a traditional family, and his children will never have to face the prospect of rape in a school restroom or locker room. They are insulated from that by their privilege. The Clintons as well enjoy Secret Service protection. Every day the elites fight for this sexual craziness — they live traditionally, but espouse ideas that destroy the very system that supports their idiocy.”

Washington also said that white Americans were a critical part of the success of the civil rights movement.

“The involvement of whites legitimized Martin Luther King’s concerns when they rose up with him,” she said. “Blacks were the impetus and the driving force, but whites on the right side of history also made it possible. It was a beautiful thing.”

As to what Martin Luther King Jr. — iconic leader, preacher, husband, father, and American — would think about what is happening today in the sexualizing of the nation, Washington answered immediately and succinctly.

“He would probably feel that the LGBT furor is some sort of demonic extraction — equating a man’s desire to mutilate his body and dress up as a woman to anything having to do with civil rights he and others fought so hard for, gave their lives for.”
