In recent weeks Americans have seen some unbelievable breaking news about its Armed Forces, once the most feared and capable in the world. The US Army has even removed its requirement for a high school diploma to enlist as of last month. America’s all volunteer force has never been in such a shambles. We can’t even get young men and women into the Army with an upwards of $50K enlistment bonus implemented months ago. The Army isn’t the only service with recruiting failures. Recent reports on the next incoming class to the Air Force Academy say that every single qualified applicant is being offered a slot in the class. That is unheard of in the Academy’s contemporary history and doesn’t bode well for the future capability of the Air Force’s core leaders. What is happening? Two events are the forcing function of both recruiting and retention. Critical Race Theory policies dismantling the defense team along race and gender lines, and the vaccine mandate. My guest today is United States Air Force Lt John Bowes. John commissioned in 2019 as an officer and distinguished graduate from the US Air Force Academy and was removed from the F-16 training program in September after filing a religious accommodation for the COVID vaccine. He has since become intimately familiar with the consequences of this mandate to National Security, recruiting, and the function of the military as a whole.
