Pearl Harbor Day – Roosevelt’s Executive Order 9066

Previous Pearl Harbor anniversaries acknowledged the planning, logistics, readiness (or lack thereof), and leadership during this pivotal moment in history. However, I have never mentioned another aspect of this attack—President Roosevelt’s Executive Order 9066 and the Internment of Japanese-American citizens into “camps.” Reading the Supreme Court decision upholding the Government’s actions should give any American concern. A few words changed to reflect the current “pandemic” and another generation of American citizens may find themselves interned and loss of their property and money. It may sound too fantastic to consider—however—reading current tweets from media personalities and the “Joe on the street” share little difference to what was said about Japanese-Americans 80 years ago in the press and general media to those who now question or decline a “vaccination.”
