On This Day… Oct. 26, 1776

Benjamin Franklin set sail from Philadelphia for France to negotiate and secure a formal alliance and treaty. Following the American victory at the Battle of Saratoga, the Treaty of Amity and the Treaty of Alliance were signed on Feb. 6, 1778.
