On This Day… August 25, 1939

"The Wizard of Oz," based on the 1900 children's book "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" by L. Frank Baum, opened in theaters across the United States. The film won Best Original Score and Best Original Song at the 1939 Academy Awards and became one of the most beloved movies in history.
