President Trump presented Capt. Gary Michael Rose with the Medal of Honor Monday for his life-saving efforts during the Vietnam War.

The Army medic treated more than 60 wounded soldiers behind enemy lines, despite his own serious injuries.

Capt. Rose “spent four days in the jungles of Laos tending to the wounded, even after he himself was wounded by shrapnel that pierced through his foot,” reports USA Today.

“For many years the story of Mike’s heroism had gone untold,” Trump said during his presentation speech (Capt. Rose goes by Mike). “But today we gather to tell the world of his valor and present him with the highest military honor our country has to offer.”
