“Saturday Night Live” used its latest episode to very predictably salivate over the recent news about General Mike Flynn and his guilty plea for lying to the FBI.

(Is this any surprise? How many previously planned segments did the show scrap to make room for this one? And did the cast and crew pull a “Joy Behar” backstage for the duration of the show?)

The show had a break last weekend, but on Saturday night Alec Baldwin showed up once more to portray President Donald Trump, as the liberal-leaning program fantasized about a reality in which the Flynn news tears apart the current administration.

In the cold open, Baldwin’s Trump was ready to skip the country with $5 million, a “bucket of chicken,” and a passport after hearing the Flynn news.

In a play on “A Christmas Carol,” Flynn revealed himself as a ghost of “witnesses flipped” — and Flynn told Trump he has much to atone for now.

Also showing up in “visions” to Trump were Billy Bush, Vladimir Putin and Hillary Clinton.

“You, Donald, have given me the greatest gift of all: sexual gratification in the form of your slow demise,” said Kate McKinnon’s Hillary Clinton.

In another bit of salivating fantasy for the program, McKinnon-Clinton said to Trump: “Lock him up!”

The phrase sounded blatantly empty and shallow, especially coming from a show that has for so long ignored many of the controversies surrounding the failed Democratic presidential candidate.

At this point, it’s painfully obvious “Saturday Night Live” is churning out lazy skits to go after the president while largely ignoring so many other nationwide controversies. Except for glancing references here and there, it’s essentially dodged the sexual misconduct allegations against people like Harvey Weinstein, Charlie Rose, Al Franken (a former “SNL” cast member, of course), Matt Lauer (formerly of NBC), Kevin Spacey and others. The show’s become predictable and tiresome; even liberals say so.

The left-leaning Daily Beast recently ran a story on “Saturday Night Live” and its political commentary, noting, “After a record-breaking, Emmy-winning season, ‘Saturday Night Live’ is struggling to get laughs with its unimaginative Trump-bashing skits.”

HBO late-night host John Oliver — in an interview with Seth Meyer — also recently took what some felt was a jab at “Saturday Night Live” and its lazy writing.

“It’s easy to do bad comedy, because you just need to repeat what he [Trump] says,” said Oliver. “And that’s not a joke — that’s repetition. Whereas comedy, especially if you want to try to do something that’s not just happening online all the time, is an effort.”

“Saturday Night Live” found a new heartbeat when Donald Trump’s prominence and popularity surged. The show is now learning that even the Left is beginning to call it out for its obvious political bias and very weak work.
