The rhetoric from many in Hollywood has become tiresome, entitled, and outrageous. According to them, we are living in a dictatorship and things have never been worse. According to them, the only way to combat the president’s agenda is with violence. And according to them, this toxic and poisonous environment we’re living in is perfectly acceptable if it helps them achieve their political goals.

Kathy Griffin holds up the likeness of Trump’s severed head, a New York City theater group openly depicts his assassination, multiple celebrities talk about potentially harming our president … on and on it goes. The rhetoric from many of these people only appears to be getting worse.

People who speak as David Simon has done are only further contributing to the polarization in this country. Such hateful words would have been unacceptable under Obama, and they should be unacceptable under Trump, no matter one’s feelings toward the president. There are far better ways to communicate with other people and have productive, significant discussions about the future of this country.
