American voters are none too thrilled when celebrities suddenly swarm their state or town, pour money into their elections, preach about how to vote and why — and then jet back to Hollywood as their words evaporate into thin air.
This is a fact the 2016 presidential election proved in spades — and it was proven again by the Georgia special election this week to fill the sixth district congressional seat. Lucky for Republicans, though – it’s a truth Democrats are still avoiding. Celebrity support for their causes has become both a crutch and a liability.

The support for Democrat Jon Ossoff from Hollywood stars was major, to say the least. Rosie O’Donnell, Jane Fonda, Samuel L. Jackson, and oh-so-many others poured their time, money and effort into Ossoff’s campaign.
Actor John Leguizamo (“John Wick”) acted as if democracy itself was hanging in the balance during the campaign. “The end of democracy looks nigh,” the actor told Politico. “I think we all realize we can’t sit back, we can’t take things for granted. We can’t sit back and hope that somebody else does something, we have to do whatever we can, [so] we all gotta get woke, and that’s the mandate. I wish there were more outspoken celebrities, athletes, artists, people with high profiles.”
In a radio ad that endorsed Ossoff, “Avengers” star Samuel L. Jackson summed up the celebrity priority to use the election as a platform to battle President Trump. He said the goal of electing Ossoff was to “stop Donald Trump, a man who encourages racial and religious discrimination and sexism.”

Comedian Sarah Silverman, actress Debra Messing, and “Star Trek” star George Takei also got involved — and spoke out against Republican victor Karen Handel. Most involved of all was “Charmed” actress Alyssa Milano (shown above, in some versions of this article, to the right of Debra Messing; Hillary Clinton and Madonna are also shown above). Milano heavily promoted Ossoff through social media and gave more time than any other celebrity by volunteering to drive voters to the polls.

In the end — it was all for naught. The president perfectly summed up the election when he tweeted that it had become “Hollywood vs. Georgia.”

Voters proved at the polls Tuesday night that they did not want to be controlled or influenced by Hollywood celebrities unaware of the important local issues facing their communities.
The fact that Democrats relied so heavily on Hollywood’s “influencers” in the Georgia election proves they learned little or nothing from Hillary Clinton’s loss last November. Her over-reliance on celebrity support from people like Madonna, Jay Z and others was arguably what helped her lose — and appear very out of touch to many voters.
The same happened this week. Democrats are committing themselves to a losing strategy — and it’s only helping Republicans.
