Trump’s SOTU Success Wipes Wolff Off the Map

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Remember “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House,” that flash-in-the-pan novel-parading-as-nonfiction from flash-in-the-pan author Michael Wolff?

Wolff was the liberal media darling who dominated the airwaves for, oh, a couple of weeks. Fair-weather friends that they are, those on the Left are now dropping this writer like a hot potato for making a mistake that they — in today’s highly charged “#MeToo and more” environment — don’t want to get near.

Wolff found himself baying at the moon all by his lonesome when he had the gall to pull a disgraceful stunt in the presence of Mika Brzezinski of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” and other co-hosts. Wolff started down the woman-slamming road while responding to a request to characterize Hope Hicks — one of President Donald Trump’s closest advisers — during an interview on Thursday’s “Morning Joe.”

“She’s his protector, his enabler … [President Trump] likes people around him who he dominates, who are essentially weak, who don’t speak back to him,” said Wolff. “And she does his bidding … She’s a perfectly nice person, but — she is, that’s what she’s there to do.”

As Wolff kept talking with the “Morning Joe” team, things quickly got worse.

“Can I just step in here … Do you regret inferring anything about Nikki Haley?” Brzezinski prodded, giving him the evil eye.

In recent days, Wolff had tried to imply that Nikki Haley, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and a former governor of South Carolina, was having an affair with Trump. Wolff had encouraged people to “read between the lines” to discover the person he meant. Internet sleuths quickly began mentioning Nikki Haley, as Fox News reported — at which point Haley stepped forward and vehemently denied the crass innuendo.

Backpedaling quickly on TV, Wolff denied suggesting any such thing. What he did suggest, he insisted, “was that many people around the president believe he is still involved with various women.” With that outrageous statement, Wolff failed to pull the wool over the co-host’s eyes.

“You might be having a fun time playing a little game, dancing around this, but it’s disgraceful. You’re slurring a woman,” Brzezinski fired back.

But Wolff gave it one more desperate shot. “Mika, again, she has been accused of nothing. She has decided to deny what she’s not been accused of. Certainly I didn’t accuse her of this.”

Holy disingenuity, Batman.

Wolff had hinted around heavily, even on major network news shows, that Haley was somehow President Trump’s mistress — then pretended it wasn’t his idea at all.

“Are you kidding?” Brzezinski said to Wolff. “We don’t b.s. here.”

And when Wolff attempted to bait her further — Brezinski cut him off. “We’re done here,” she said.

The list of folks now calling out Wolff’s worthless fiction — and the liberal media’s predicament — is growing by the minute.
