When it comes to being harangued by such left-leaning celebrities as Meryl Streep, Chelsea Handler, and even Alyssa Milano, television viewers would rather be left alone. And who can blame them for rejecting Hollywood’s selective moralizing?

In a national poll of 1,000 likely voters, three-fourths of the respondents said they agreed with the statement: “When I watch live sports or entertainment shows on television, I am trying to get away from politics and do not want to be bombarded with partisan political messages,” according to new data from McLaughlin & Associates.

In other words, 75 percent of folks polled may not want to hear late-night host Jimmy Kimmel’s latest anti-Trump rant.

They’d rather not receive a barrage of minutiae surrounding Kimmel’s first colonoscopy, either — which aired this Tuesday evening.

And they do not want to hear what NBA star LeBron James or other polarizing sports figures have to say about politics or American culture.

The poll, commissioned by the Media Research Center, a watchdog aimed at neutralizing left-wing bias in the press, also revealed that 44 percent of participants said they’re less likely to watch live sports and entertainment shows these days because the shows have become too political.

MRC founder and president Brent Bozell on Wednesday released a statement about the poll’s findings.

“Many people have speculated that it is the liberal politics in sports and entertainment shows that is driving their audiences away,” said Bozell. “We now have evidence that proves this is true.”

He added, “It is no coincidence that viewership of this year’s Oscars ceremony hit an all-time-low. The NFL and liberal sports networks like ESPN are completely at odds with their viewers’ interests, and their ratings reflect it. Perhaps the sports and entertainment industries will finally heed this warning before Americans tune out for good.”
