Megan Rapinoe just won’t quit.

We’re not talking about the Olympian’s determination as a soccer player. We’re talking about her insistence on taking a knee during “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Rapinoe, wearing a United States women’s soccer uniform, knelt during the national anthem Thursday night in Columbus before the women’s national team took on Thailand.

U.S. Soccer did not like her display of disrespect. The organization issued a statement saying that representing the country is “a privilege and honor … As part of the privilege to represent your country, we have an expectation that our players and coaches will stand and honor our flag while the national anthem is played.”

There was no mention of any repercussions against Rapinoe for her behavior.

Rapinoe has been repeatedly following Colin Kaepernick’s protest, first taking a knee as a member of the National Women’s Soccer League’s Seattle Reign team on Sept. 4.

In her next NWSL game — on Sept. 7 — Rapinoe was prevented from taking a knee because the opposing team’s coach, Bill Lynch, had the anthem played early, while the teams were in the locker room. The move prompted Rapinoe to brand the coach “homophobic.”

After Thursday’s game, Rapinoe told ESPN she continues to “keep kneeling. I’m trying to kind of formulate a better plan and an action step moving forward. But until then, this is how I can help, this is how I can use my voice going forward, and this is how I can be an ally in this space.”
