After her initial apology for calling Ivanka Trump a horrible, unforgivable name was exposed as a fraud, late-night host Samantha Bee offered up yet another empty apology Wednesday night on her show, “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.”

“You know, a lot of people were offended and angry I used an epithet to describe the president’s daughter and adviser last week,” this host and comedian began. “It is a word I have used on the show many times, hoping to reclaim it. This time I used it as an insult. I crossed the line, I regret it and I do apologize for that.”

(She’s talking about the vile C-word, of course. Lovely.)

“The problem is that many women have heard that word at the worst moments of their lives,” she continued. “A lot of them don’t want that word reclaimed. They want it gone. And I don’t blame them.”

“I don’t want to inflict more pain on them,” she added. “I want this show to be challenging and I want it to be honest, but I never intended it to hurt anyone, except Ted Cruz.”

“I hate that this distracted from more important issues,” Samantha Bee claimed. “I hate that I did something to contribute to the nightmare of 24-hour news cycles that we’re all white-knuckling through. I should have known that a potty-mouthed insult would be inherently more interesting to them than juvenile immigration policy.”

“I would do anything to help those kids [illegal immigrant children]. I hate that this distracted from them. So, to them, I am also sorry,” she said.

“I’m really sorry that I said that word,” she went on. “But, you know what? Civility is just nice words. Maybe we should all worry little bit more about the niceness of our actions.”

Oh, my word. There’s a lot to unpack here, including the following topics:

  • Bee’s concern for “juvenile immigration,” a problem former President Obama fueled during his time in the White House;
  • Ivanka Trump’s photo of her holding her precious young son, which had nothing whatsoever to do with immigration;
  • Bee’s purported concern that her low-rent comedy is distracting from issues of national importance; and
  • Bee’s pointing the finger at society for its concerns about “civility” (how dare you all be civilized!)

NRA spokesperson and radio host Dana Loesch did an admirable job of summing up Bee’s hypocrisy on “Fox & Friends” Thursday morning. “Why in the world, out of all words to try to ‘reclaim,’ would you try to reclaim that one? You don’t reclaim a word by using it in an insulting manner against another woman,” said Loesch. “That’s not reclaiming a word — that’s joining along with the gang.”

Certainly, there has been a pretty big Hollywood “gang” that somehow approves of Bee’s smear against Ivanka Trump. There’s director Joss Whedon, comic Jon Stewart, disgraced comedian Kathy Griffin, and actresses Minnie Driver and Sally Field, to name a few. All have put their stamps of approval on Bee’s original vulgar rant, if you can imagine.

Anything goes — so any “apology” to the masses is just dishonest lip service.
