Once upon a time, “Saturday Night Live” was funny. The show was the training ground for comedians like Eddie Murphy, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, and Jay Mohr.

Now, it appears the only way for the program to stay relevant is to basically be MSNBC — but with comedy. At this point, with Alec Baldwin portraying President Donald Trump on a near-weekly basis and now actress Melissa McCarthy earning headlines for playing White House press secretary Sean Spicer, the series might as well be renamed “The Trump-Bashing Show.”

The show’s political skits are typically the only ones that earn “SNL” any attention from the media — and likely the little fuel that keeps the show running and clips going viral.

Now, comedian Rosie O’Donnell has offered up her “talents” to the Trump-bashing show. She has expressed through Twitter a desire to play White House chief strategist Steve Bannon — who last week was played by someone in a cheap Grim Reaper outfit.

O’Donnell was asked whether she’d be willing to join the show as Bannon, to which she replied: “i am here to serve — alec has trump — melissa has spice — i would need a few days to prepare — so if called — i will be ready.”

If “Saturday Night Live” were to hire O’Donnell, it would be the second time the show employed an adult who has bullied a child.

The show was forced to suspend writer Katie Rich after she tweeted during the inauguration about President Donald Trump’s 10-year-old son: “Barron will be this country’s first homeschool shooter.”

Even though she was indefinitely suspended, “Saturday Night Live” and NBC kept publicly silent on the matter.

Similarly, Rosie O’Donnell posted a video to her 900,000 Twitter followers that dissected Barron Trump’s public behavior and claimed he was autistic. In a handful of social media meltdowns, O’Donnell used the strange conspiracy theory as a platform to attack Donald Trump as a liar. She later apologized.

On top of how she bullied a child, O’Donnell has called for the impeachment of President Trump and even previously suggested martial law to keep him from taking office.

There is no doubt O’Donnell’s politics fit with the liberal “Saturday Night Live” — yet her extreme rhetoric and questionable actions regarding Barron Trump make her an unethical choice to take part in almost any cultural conversations regarding Trump or his administration. She would be a low choice, even for the Trump-obsessed “SNL.”
