Rosie Finally Apologizes to Melania

Actress Rosie O’Donnell has officially apologized to future first lady Melania Trump and her 10-year-son Barron after tweeting a video suggesting the president-elect’s 10-year-old son could be autistic.

After sharing the video to her nearly 1 million followers and receiving heavy criticism for it, O’Donnell took to her website to defend her actions, while also taking a few potshots at the president-elect.

“How amazing IF it is true,” O’Donnell wrote in her defense, claiming her intentions were only to help raise autism awareness, adding, “Donald does not have the power to change the facts — to rewrite history so speak true — stand tall.”

Standing tall in the face of human decency didn’t last long. O’Donnell tweeted an apology to Melania Trump yesterday:

“i apologize to @MELANIATRUMP — i was insensitive in my RT — i am sorry for the pain i caused — it was not my intent — i am truly sorry,” the tweet read.

The apology comes after Melania Trump was forced to hire a lawyer — who demanded in a letter that the video examining her young son’s out-of-context behavior be removed. It acknowledged O’Donnell’s part in growing the popularity of the video, as well.

“The video did instigate further bullying by Rosie O’Donnell and others,” read the letter from Melania Trump’s lawyer, Charles J. Harder, to the video’s originator, according to TMZ.

The video was removed and its creator, James Hunter, immediately apologized.

“It was incredibly irresponsible of me to diagnose Barron Trump using a selection of misleading videos. I falsely correlated him trying to stay awake and occasionally doing quirky things, with him suffering from autism.”

The apology from O’Donnell is a victory for the incoming first family. No matter anyone’s opinion of the president-elect, basic rules of respect and decency are being thrown to the wind lately. Besides O’Donnell’s bullying and ridiculing of a 10-year-old boy whose father was elected president of the United States, there was Patton Oswalt’s lame attempt at humor when he encouraged terrorist attacks on Trump buildings around the world — or actor Michael Shannon’s call for civil war and voter death in the wake of Trump’s victory.

It’s the kind of behavior that would never be tolerated against President Obama and his family — and it’s not something that should be tolerated with Trump as president.
