The revival of the TV sitcom “Roseanne” caused quite a stir when star and creator Roseanne Barr first announced her character would be a Donald Trump supporter.

Barr — a Trump supporter herself — never backed down from the decision despite the backlash she got for it. She was honest about what her sitcom had always been — a show that found comedy by taking on the issues that working-class Americans face every day.

The revival did not disappoint in its premiere on Tuesday night. This is the kind of content that has become so hard for Hollywood to create these days — honest and agenda-free entertainment about relatable characters and the varying lives we all lead as we work right beside each other.

Is Roseanne a Trump supporter in the revival? Yes.

Is the show pro-Trump? The program has no opinion. Instead, the series instead intelligently gave honest portrayals of the political and social conversations friends and family are constantly having today. Barr was able to give voice to a side rarely represented by and in Hollywood.

Fan response seems to be fairly positive after the two-part premiere last night — with the exception of leftists’ ripping their hair out over a show that dares to display a Trump voter in a fair light. This could be a significant piece of content in the age of Trump — a work that can actually act as an equalizer in these divisive times, in which some friends and family literally refuse to speak to each other over petty political disagreements.

At a time conservatives and anyone not totally against the current president of the United States are constantly berated on television, “Roseanne” is exactly the show we need. It presents our differences in rather obvious ways, then digs a little deeper to show we all have more in common than we think — no matter whom we voted for in the presidential election or any other one.

Early numbers for the return of “Roseanne” were huge. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the revival earned an average of 18.1 million viewers with a 5.1 rating in the much coveted age 18-49 demo. Those numbers are unheard of today and makes “Roseanne” the highest-rated sitcom currently around.
