For decades Robert De Niro was known for his impressive filmography. These days, he’s known as someone who will say “yes,” it appears, to any project that comes his way. He also puts an enormous amount of energy into bashing the president.

De Niro recently appeared on “Saturday Night Live” as Robert Mueller in a sketch with Ben Stiller that did homage to the film “Meet the Parents” — while also taking aim at President Donald Trump.

Now, De Niro has told NBC’s Craig Melvin this week that he hopes to reprise his Mueller role soon so he can act out a sketch in which he throws the president in jail.

“I hope there’s a couple [segments] where I interrogate [Trump], I arrest him, and then I take him to jail,” the actor said about future “SNL” work.

He added, “I have never been this active [in politics], but when I see what’s going on with this guy, you have no choice but to be active. It’s past the point of being passive. People have to speak out. They have to speak out over and over and over again. This guy, this administration, is beyond belief. It has to stop.”

It’s incredibly sad when the man who delivered unforgettable performances in classic films like “Goodfellas” and “Taxi Driver” admits that his big career goal now is to appear in a lame political sketch on “SNL” — just so that he can act out some bizarre fantasy of putting the sitting president behind bars. Oh, how the mighty have fallen …
