Rob Reiner is one of President Donald Trump’s fiercest Hollywood critics — and the director seems to have no plans of letting that go.

The “Stand by Me” filmmaker joined MSNBC’s “AM Joy” on Sunday to weigh in on the immigration crisis. He called the president’s supporters racist and suggested there really is no illegal immigration problem in America.

“The truth of the matter is, there is no crisis except for the one that Donald Trump created,” Reiner insisted in Tornillo, Texas, a city where many have been protesting the Trump administration’s immigration policies.

The director went on to suggest that Trump’s supporters are racist and the president is simply taking advantage of that racism.

“Let’s cut to the chase: This is about racism. This is pure and simply racism. That’s all this is,” the director said. “He [Trump] is hoping that the people who support him will be ginned up and [run] to the polls to make sure that brown people don’t come into America.”

He added that the president is “destroying families.”

Reiner’s wife, screenwriter Michele Reiner, agreed with her husband in the interview and said, “This is about racism.” She later compared America’s immigration policies to events in Auschwitz.

Reiner added, “What we’re doing in the United States of America is inhuman … [Trump] launched his campaign basically saying, ‘Mexicans are rapists and murderers.’ That’s what he is still selling. It’s the only thing he can sell to that racist base of his.”

He continued, “The people who support him are frightened to death of the browning of America.”

Reiner recently pointed out that Robert De Niro’s continued vulgar rants against the president and his supporters were doing nothing to help their cause, which was an intelligent point. But does Reiner really see a difference in his own words when he calls millions of Americans, including the president, racist?

This is an artist who seems only to be interested in further polarization.
