If Alec Baldwin admitted tomorrow to being a longtime secret supporter of President Donald Trump — it would not be a surprise. Few people in the entertainment industry have benefitted from Trump’s presidency this past year as much as Baldwin has.

There was a time when the actor was teetering on irrelevancy, his career embroiled in one controversy after another.

The actor couldn’t find significant work — and headlines about him made reference to leaked phone calls in which he berated his daughter or the insults he aimed at photographers.

He even had a failed talk show in 2013 on MSNBC. After five episodes of disastrous ratings, the network pulled the series and cited Baldwin’s infamous use of a gay slur as the reason for parting ways with the actor.

Enter Donald J. Trump. Baldwin has honed a decent impression of the president by this time, and he’s now frequently in front of the cameras performing his exaggerated impersonation on “Saturday Night Live.” The schtick isn’t particularly funny, but it’s a profitable performance considering the level of anti-Trump hysteria in the mainstream culture.

Slowly but surely, in other words, Baldwin has crawled his way back to the top.

He has an Emmy Award for his Trump performance, a book written from the perspective of his Trump character — and now it appears he’s getting another shot at a new entertainment project.

The actor is preparing for a talk show on ABC, which will be based on his podcast, “Here’s the Thing with Alec Baldwin,” Entertainment Weekly confirmed Tuesday. Page Six first reported the news.

On his existing podcast, Baldwin interviews politicians, athletes and artists. There’s no doubt a series featuring the actor would primarily focus on Baldwin’s newfound goldmine: Trump. The world doesn’t really need yet another anti-Trump program — but Baldwin is no doubt going to ride this wave of good grace from liberals and the mainstream media for as long as he conceivably can.
