Instead of listening to what pro-Trump rapper Kanye West has to say, some people are tuning him out entirely.

The entertainer, who recently voiced his support for both President Donald Trump and commentator Candace Owens, has received plenty of backlash for his views. One radio station has even decided it won’t play his music now.

A hip-hop station in Detroit, known as 105.1 The Bounce, announced it will no longer use any of the 18 West tracks it had in its mix.

The Thursday statement from BiGG and Shay Shay of “The Morning Bounce” show confirming the decision read: “We feel like Kanye has gone too far with his latest statement declaring that ‘slavery was a choice.’ We are over it. We don’t want to hear Kanye’s music, we don’t want to play Kanye on our show, we don’t want to talk about Kanye anymore. So we are taking a stand, and we aren’t playing his music anymore; we just are refusing to give him a platform.”

BiGG told The Detroit News the boycott of West’s work was initially discussed only for his — BiGG’s — show, but the program director, John Candelaria, approved it for the whole station.

“In my 20-year radio career, this is one of the largest responses I’ve ever seen. The largest reaction on ‘The Bounce,’ too,” BiGG said. “It’s very overwhelming right now. I’m just trying to keep up. Lots of people in support, but the people that aren’t are taking personal jabs. Weird.”

This decision came after West’s appearance on TMZ earlier in the week, in which he said, “When you hear about slavery for 400 years — for 400 years! That sounds like a choice. Like, you was there for 400 years and it’s all of y’all? It’s like we’re mentally in prison.”

Kanye West has talked a lot about mental imprisonment lately; he clarified that’s closer to what he was referring to with his slavery comment.

“We can make our own reality,” he said. “We can talk about history but not too long. We need to talk about our ‘now.’ Because we can fix [it], and start loving each other now. I say we have no enemies.”

In addition to the ban by the radio station, the hashtag #MuteKanye made its way onto Twitter — and people have been deleting his music from their devices.

Right now, West is one of the few celebs willing to discuss ideas outside of the Hollywood norm. While some have embraced his freedom of thought, others would rather not listen to what he has to say: They don’t agree with him or think they’re not supposed to think like him.

Although West is presumably gaining support among conservatives, it’s clear from the blowback that some celebrities may be wary about voicing right-leaning opinions.

However, even with the hate he’s getting, West’s message is important: He wants people to think for themselves. Apparently, leftists don’t appreciate free speech and free thought because if they did, they wouldn’t be trying to censor and boycott him.
