It can be difficult to keep up with many of today’s increasingly divisive and extreme celebrities. The results of the presidential election in November 2016 have pushed many preaching liberal stars further than the public at large ever imagined they’d go.

Unfortunately, these are the people setting the tone for today’s pop culture in many cases.

Luckily, privileged stars with their heads in the clouds who seek to vilify those who disagree with them are not the only ones with cultural voices. Welcome to the latest edition of Hollywood ridiculousness.

Actress Leighton Meester (“Gossip Girl,” “Making History”) put her airheadedness and privilege on full display recently in an interview with Yahoo! Style. When asked if there was a historical event she would change, Meester said the only thing that came to mind was the presidential victory of Donald Trump in November.

“Like, if I could snap my fingers? Trump would not be elected. That’s all,” Meester said. “Before Trump, I would have said that Hitler was never born.” And then, showing true class — she used the F-word in ways not worth repeating here.

In Meester’s mind, the election of our newest president is a worse catastrophe than the actions of a murderous dictator. Go figure.

Actor Alec Baldwin — in what was likely just a plea for positive press and attention from fans — said his days of impersonating President Trump on “Saturday Night Live” are likely numbered.

“Trump just overwhelmingly lacks any sportsmanship. He remains bitter and angry, and you just want to look at him and go, ‘You won!'” Baldwin told “Extra” in an interview. “His policies aside, which you can hate, I thought he would have just relaxed.”

Baldwin continued, “The maliciousness of this White House has people worried. That’s why I’m not going to do it much longer, the impersonation. I don’t know how much more people can take it.”

The statements sound a little far-fetched, since Baldwin’s Trump impersonation has put him back in the good graces of the media and reminded audiences (and perhaps himself) that he still exists. Beyond “Saturday Night Live,” Baldwin’s recent career has been plagued by controversies — including the time he hurled homophobic slurs at a reporter — and supporting roles in films that don’t stick at the box office.

Recent acting gigs for Alec Baldwin have included flops like “Rules Don’t Apply” and “Concussion.” The former couldn’t even muster $4 million at the box office, while “Concussion” barely topped $30 million. Before those films, Baldwin had an MSNBC show that was swiftly cancelled.

His Donald Trump impersonation has earned him the kind of positive press that would have seemed impossible a few years ago. His career comeback is due solely to Donald Trump, in other words — and there’s no way he’s going to give that up so easily. After all, nowhere in the interview did he give a specific date for stopping the impersonation; and it was also just recently announced that Baldwin is co-writing a satirical book as his “Trump” character about the president’s first 100 days in office.

The sitcom “Last Man on Earth” recently found its humor in a rather morbid place for an episode entitled, “Got Milk.” The series — which takes place in a post-apocalyptic world — shows news footage in a flashback that reveals President Trump’s entire Cabinet died in a freak accident.

“And there’s the presidential hearse as they head toward Arlington Cemetery. Michael Richard Pence, 46th president of the United States, dead at the age of 61,” the news broadcast states.

“President Paul Davis Ryan Jr., President Rex Wayne Tillerson. President Steven Turner Mnuchin. President Jeffery Beauregard Sessions. President Betsy DeVos, dead at the age of 61,” the broadcaster goes on to say — revealing each ranking Republican to have died. President Trump is never actually named, but his fate is obvious from the scene.

Might there have been just a little outrage from the media and commentators had a sequence like this taken place while Barack Obama was president?

“Girls” star Lena Dunham recently said the president was responsible for her weight loss — and now Barbra Streisand is saying he’s responsible for her weight gain.

After all this, what might give you a glimmer of hope — are the recent words from actress Jennifer Lopez about police.

It may not be “cool” today to say positive things about the police, but Lopez did anyway. She portrays a police officer on the television series “Shades of Blue.”

“Being in law enforcement and having to keep the peace, all that it entails is so difficult, it’s such a hard life,” Lopez said at the red carpet event for the recent premiere of her show.

Lopez revealed her role has given her new perspective on the job of law enforcement.

“Whenever you play a character, you have to love them in a sense and understand them completely.”
