The infamous case of brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez is getting renewed attention thanks to a new four-part series that dramatizes the events leading up to the convictions of both young men in 1994 of murdering their parents.

The new NBC show, titled “Law and Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders,” is what gave Megyn Kelly the excuse to allow Lyle Menendez to have an incredible publicity platform via her new morning show.

Kelly spoke with 49-year-old Lyle by phone — he is serving a life sentence at Mule Creek State Prison in Ione, California, while his brother is serving the same sentence at Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego — on the Wednesday installment of her show.

Kelly asked odd questions about the night Lyle helped murder his parents by shotgun.

“I wonder if you remember when you were shooting them, what you were feeling?” asked Kelly. She also asked whether Lyle looked his parents in the eye when he murdered them — to which he replied that he was “blinded by emotion.”

On “The Laura Ingraham Show” on Wednesday morning, host Laura Ingraham, who is also editor-in-chief of LifeZette, played some clips from the interview — several of which are included here in this article.

Kelly also asked about the 911 phone call after the murders took place, and whether Lyle and Erik were “acting.”

“Because of all the emotion that went into what had happened and what preceded it, that emotion didn’t just disappear,” said Lyle, adding that the phone call was “very emotional.”

Kelly later asked him about his religious beliefs, to which he responded that he did believe in God. He added with a laugh, “I hope it’s a very forgiving God.”

“Is there any joy in your life?” Kelly also asked. Lyle replied he’d been married for 10 years and got “a great deal of joy” from that relationship.

Kelly’s summer news program was extremely controversial and her morning program is already struggling in the ratings.

She said in the opening episode of the new program that it would be a politics-free zone and a show that would gift audiences with “a smile, sometimes a tear, and maybe some hope to start your day.”

Apparently, her mission of giving people “hope” means speaking to convicted murderers about the grisly details of their crimes.
