During Tuesday night’s “The Ingraham Angle,” on Fox News, host Laura Ingraham took liberals to task for their latest target. That target would be none other than Winston Churchill — and the man who won an Oscar Sunday night for playing the great leader in the film “Darkest Hour.”

“Churchill is revered as the man who saved Europe, and perhaps western civilization — but that isn’t good enough for the PC police, who launched a furious and unhinged backlash against the Oscars for honoring the great man via Oldman’s Best Actor award,” said Ingraham.

“Here’s what his critics overlook. Churchill might not have been a perfect man, but he was a great man, because he alone had the courage to defy the naysayers and do what victory required,” she added.

“Churchill’s wartime strategy could be summed up in two words, and they remain good advice as we battle the modern forces of intolerance and the PC police: Never surrender.”

Why is the Left screeching about Churchill?

Churchill, remember, is the celebrated hero who saved his country during World War II by helping to clean Hitler’s clock.

Churchill was a man of his times, though. Like many of his contemporaries, he apparently harbored dislike for non-Britons — namely, Muslims, Indians, and Palestinians. It is that aspect of his personality, not his incredible military and political leadership, that’s got the Left hot and bothered.

And Gary Oldman had the unmitigated gall to say these words on Sunday night when accepting an Oscar for his portrayal of Britain’s greatest prime minister: “I would just like to salute Sir Winston Churchill, who has been marvelous company on what can be described as an incredible journey.”

That seemingly innocuous expression of appreciation set off a firestorm. It wasn’t just folks on Twitter this time who were apoplectic over it, either; journalists joined the fray. Both Twitterdom and the media frantically typed out their hatred, disrespect, and lack of appreciation.

Clearly Churchill’s views against non-Brits would not be acceptable today. But Churchill isn’t living in 2018. In Churchill’s time, for good or ill, his views were par for the course.

To make matters worse, Oldman sealed the deal during Sunday’s acceptance speech by — gasp! —praising America.

“I’ve lived in America for the longest time, and I am deeply grateful to her for the loves and the friendships I have made and the many wonderful gifts it has given me — my home, my livelihood, my family, and now Oscar,” said Oldman on winning his first Oscar for Best Actor.

Oh, Gary. Don’t you know how triggering that is for snowflakes who still haven’t gotten over the 2016 elections? Couldn’t you see them melting with your every word? Didn’t you care?

More seriously, though, the final blow to the #MeToo crowd are allegations that Oldman may have abused his ex-wife in 2001, as The Guardian, The Daily Beast, and other outlets reported. Oldman’s own son has denied the allegations, saying he was there at the time of the alleged “incident,” and “it didn’t happen,” as Variety reported. In addition, Oldman is said to have defended Mel Gibson and Alec Baldwin, who have also been accused of abuse, in a 2014 Playboy interview. Oldman apologized for the “insensitive” nature of those comments.

Look, in regard to Winston Churchill, was he a racist? He might well have been. And so were large swaths of his contemporaries.

Does that negate the fact that he helped save his country — and possibly all of western civilization — from a racist madman who exterminated countless Jews out of sheer hatred?
