Liberal Celebs Say Their ‘Outrage Works’ — Why They’re Wrong

Liberal celebrities are an interesting lot. They have a tendency to hyperfocus on only one thing at a time.

For the past few days, they’ve done nothing but train their thoughts, energies and opinions on the fate of former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon. After the recent events in Charlottesville, Virginia, anti-Trump celebrities on social media were looking for a scapegoat. #FireBannon became a trending hashtag.

When Bannon left his White House post this week, celebrities and their most loyal followers felt emboldened and vindicated — and saw themselves as victors in the man’s removal.

What’s so telling about all of this is the inability of many celebrities to focus on multiple outrages at once. Charlottesville happened — and the focus became white supremacists for the week; that replaced the Russia nonsense that went nowhere. Celebrities followed a narrative where Bannon was a “racist” — then cheered when he left the White House.

Interestingly enough, Bannon was reportedly one of the few non-interventionists within the administration. According to many reports, he was a voice who argued against the yearslong wars in the Middle East; and he said in his final interview that he believed military intervention with North Korea was a mistake.

After his departure from the White House, Wikileaks tweeted, “Has the White House purged its chief anti-interventionist with the exit of Steve Bannon?” The New York Times also published a story titled “Bannon’s Dovish Side Emerges as He Contradicts Trump on North Korea.”

Even CNN’s Jake Tapper pointed to Bannon’s foreign-policy views as being overlooked by those celebrating his exit from the administration in a series of tweets.

Remember how liberal celebrities protested the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq when President George W. Bush was in office? Remember how they were representing the “peace party”? Back then, it was a trendy topic for them.

When Barack Obama won the presidency and the wars raged on, people like filmmaker Michael Moore fell silent, kneeling in their loyalty to their party.

Now these same people celebrate the leaving of Bannon, a man who seems to have been one of the most anti-war people in the current administration. But that doesn’t matter — everyone deemed him a racist, all while dismissing the fact that he called neo-Nazi groups who protested in Charlottesville “clowns.” Therefore, they think his firing is a “victory.”

What’s also telling about Hollywood’s celebration of Bannon’s exit from the Trump White House is that he is a filmmaker himself. Beyond being a political strategist and reporter, Bannon is an artist, whether lib celebs want to admit that or not. He has produced movies for stars such as Sean Penn and Val Kilmer, and he’s written and directed numerous documentaries. Sure, many of the projects are right-leaning in their viewpoints, but all of this is one more indication of the lack of community in Hollywood when a person’s right-wing politics are on display.

Bottom line: Liberal celebrities are celebrating Bannon’s removal from the White House, and their celebration over this is frightening. It shows once again their lack of macro-level thinking — and their delusions over the influence they think they have over the happenings in the nation’s capital.
