Liberal Celebrities Hold Their Own State of the Union

It’s difficult to tell what most liberal celebrities even stand for anymore. Their philosophy basically boils down to: If Trump does something, it’s bad.

Actors such as Mark Ruffalo, Amy Schumer, John Leguizamo, Cynthia Nixon, Whoopi Goldberg, and many others gathered on Monday night at Manhattan’s Town Hall Theater to protest against the president and his upcoming State of the Union.

The event was dubbed the People’s State of the Union — and it was filled with the familiar, generic and almost automatic anti-Trump rhetoric that’s now second nature to liberal celebrities.

“We’re going to set our sights to continue that work in the next year, and strengthen our bonds and commitments to each other, for long after the Trump era comes to its rightful end,” said Mark Ruffalo, who served as the night’s emcee, to the crowd. “We ain’t stopping with Trump, OK?” (Love that grammar.)

People in the crowd wore shirts that said things like “We Are All Dreamers.”

In his own speech, John Leguizamo called America “the greatest country ever stolen.”

Interestingly enough, the “John Wick” actor also recently revealed he was considering dumping acting and running for public office. He told The Daily Beast he’d seek office in a state like Texas.

“I would run someplace heinous to make a difference,” he said. Hmm. Insulting the state you want to represent by calling it “heinous” doesn’t seem the best first step for a politician …

Also in attendance at the People’s State of the Union was Michael Moore, who has focused the latest stage of his career completely around this president. The filmmaker gave the audience a “to-do” list for 2018 and said he wanted to see the “widespread massive removal of Republicans from the House and Senate, the likes of which this country has never seen.”

He also said the president and current administration need to be “removed” from office.

“The need to remove him — and also any Democrat who is in the way of removing him — that is, at this point, a moral imperative for each and every one of us,” he said. “Removing him, and Pence, and the whole disgusting lot of them … still won’t be enough. We must remove and replace the system and the culture that gave us Trump in the first place.”

Liberal celebrities these days seem to aggressively avoid making well thought-out political arguments and instead just stand in open defiance to anything Trump does. What does that accomplish?

They spread conspiracy theories, speak generically about issues, and come across as tremendously uninformed.

Their latest remarks, and this gathering itself, are a perfect example. What are they protesting? Trump? The State of the Union?

It’s reached the point where one almost feels sorry for celebrities still so obsessed with Trump that their lives have become entirely consumed by this. They can’t help but have a knee-jerk reaction of anger, annoyance or repugnance at anything the man does, might have done, or will potentially do one day in the future.
