In 2014, Facebook introduced tons of gender identities (58, to be exact) and it still allows users to select from among three pronouns: “him,” “her” or “their” (forget grammar; it’s political correctness that matters). The days of identifying oneself as a male or female are long gone. Gender is now a “custom” option on Facebook — and apparently in the real world as well.

Pay attention, because it gets tricky quickly. We went to GenderWiki to get a better handle on gender identities and sexual orientations, but it raised more questions than it answered. Just like everything else, gender is a form of expression and evidently, everything goes.

Most genders either have their own colorful flag and/or a modified sex symbol for representation. Read carefully before switching your Facebook gender… Nothing is ever what it seems.
