Let’s Make Hollywood Great Again, Says Wolverine Group

A campaign is underway to “push back against Chinese influence in Hollywood.”

As Chinese investments in Hollywood grow, America is at risk of losing its leadership role in the arts. Jobs and productions are beginning to be exported to other countries, films are recut to meet the stringent restrictions of the Chinese government — and companies like Legendary (“Fast and Furious” and “Jurassic World” franchises) have been bought up by Chinese conglomerate Dalian Wanda.

The goal of the Wolverine Entertainment campaign — which has the support of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, “Justified” actor Nick Searcy, and “Hercules” star Kevin Sorbo — is to create the foundation of an American studio that makes films for those ignored by today’s pop culture.

LifeZette reached out to Wolverine Entertainment to find out more about the campaign and interviewed one of the instigators of the campaign who chose to remain anonymous. “You may identify me as an award-winning film producer who is speaking on the condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal from studios.”

Question: Tell us and our readers a little about this campaign and its background.
Answer: First, thank you for taking an interest in our project. Let me give you some background. We are a group of mainstream filmmakers who are just tired of being told what films we must make. Candidly, the more Hollywood tries to shove agendas down people’s throats, the more the movies end up sucking. And yet, we still must remain anonymous until we can prove to the country that Hollywood is NOT inherently liberal. It’s not inherently anything. It’s a tool. Whoever invests in that tool gets to use it.

We made the Kickstarter project first and foremost to alert this country about the Chinese takeover of America’s greatest exports to the world: our movies. Since 1949, China has made it no secret that it wants to expand its soft power throughout the world. The scariest responses we have received are comments from Americans saying something like, “Let the Chinese have Hollywood.” That’s just crazy.

Q: What makes right now the proper time for something like Wolverine Entertainment?
A: Two things: The Chinese cannot keep making these acquisitions without anyone questioning the legality. Second, only the current Hollywood management could not make the connection between declining box office returns with the crappy movies and remakes it keeps producing.

Q: It’s pretty much rhetorical, but did your chosen studio name come from “Red Dawn”?
A: We’ll let you figure that one out.

Q: Big names like Nick Searcy and Kevin Sorbo have thrown their weight behind this project. Are they and other outspoken conservatives the types of people you’d like to work with in the future? And are there any hints you can give readers and possible contributors about the kinds of films Wolverine Entertainment would be focused on?
A: We also have Gov. Mike Huckabee and others coming on board ever since we launched. But to be honest, the money we raise is NOT for those big names and outspoken conservatives. We want to give young filmmakers the opportunity to tell innovative, interesting stories without having to conform to some fake standard implemented by current Hollywood executives.

We want to build a foundation for the next generation of filmmakers, especially young female filmmakers.

Finally, we aren’t setting out to make overtly conservative films. We want to make good films. I’ll leave you with these examples.

“The Hunger Games” films were set in a world that is the natural outcome of a Bernie Sanders presidency. That’s ultimately what socialism looks like.

Both “The Blind Side” and “Hacksaw Ridge” were films about people living their faith without being “faith-based” movies. Both were nominated for Academy Awards.

“Dallas Buyers Club” was the most libertarian movie ever made. The FDA was the bad guy in that movie and Matthew [McConaughey] won an Academy Award.

And our favorite example that freaks people out is that “Knocked Up” is the most successful pro-life movie in history.
