Daytime talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres has said that the president is not welcome on her show. Why is this relevant? Because the comedian previously has had George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton on her program.

Asked by Matt Lauer of NBC’s “Today Show” about the possibility of hosting and debating Donald Trump on her show, DeGeneres responded with, “Um, no.”

She added, “I mean, I know him from ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ because when we first started this show, I think Season 1 or 2, we went out there and we filmed something with him, and so I flew in his helicopter and did a bit with him. So I knew him then, [but] I have not spoken to him since he’s run for president or become president.”

It’s doubtful the president of the U.S. will be losing any sleep over not being invited to appear on her show. But DeGeneres’ reaction speaks to a larger issue occurring right now in society, especially with many on the Left: There’s an unwillingness to debate or even interact with others with whom people disagree.

Just look at recent events at University of California, Berkeley, where conservatives such as Ann Coulter were invited and then disinvited — and labeled as perpetrators of hate speech.

Late-night host and outspoken liberal Chelsea Handler also told Variety in an interview in January that not only would she be unwilling to have the president on her show, but Melania Trump was unwelcome as well. Why? “She can barely speak English,” said Handler — presumably unaware that Melania Trump is fluent in five languages.

It should go without saying that the comment went unnoticed — or was ignored — by the mainstream media thanks to Handler’s leftist views. She added she didn’t respect the president or the first lady.

What good can it do to imprison yourself inside an echo chamber as so many leftists have been doing recently? The biggest lesson of the 2016 presidential election should have been that elitist establishments were ignoring large portions of the U.S. in their privileged, dismissive thinking.

Now they’re doubling down.
