Some prominent people have let their dislike of the president blind them. A recent case in point is “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling — who was called out over the weekend for helping to spread fake news about Donald Trump.

In response to a video that appeared to show the president ignoring a child in a wheelchair, the author tweeted out, “Trump imitated a disabled reporter. Now he pretends not to see a child in a wheelchair, as though frightened he might catch his condition.”

Rowling continued, “This monster of narcissism values only himself and his pale reflections. The disabled, minorities, transgender people, the poor, women (unless related to him by ties of blood, and therefore his creations) are treated with contempt, because they do not resemble Trump.”

Her tirade didn’t end there. She had nearly written an entire book before she was done taking Trump to task.

She wrote, “My mother used a wheelchair. I witnessed people uncomfortable around her disability, but if they had a shred of decency they got over it … So yes, that clip of Trump looking deliberately over a disabled child’s head, ignoring his outstretched hand, has touched me on the raw. That man occupies the most powerful office in the free world, and his daily outrages against civilized norms are having a corrosive effect.”

She continued, “How stunning, and how horrible, that Trump cannot bring himself to shake the hand of a small boy who only wanted to touch the president.”

If the president had actually, purposefully ignored a child in a wheelchair, then perhaps Rowling’s frustration would be warranted. There’s one big problem: Trump did not ignore the three-year-old boy named Monty. The full video released by the White House showed indeed that the president acknowledged the boy and shook his hand. Rowling was responding to an edited clip of the exchange — which has since been taken down from Twitter.

Yet as of Monday morning, Rowling’s tweets remained up and she has made no effort to apologize for her critical words. At least one person is publicly calling her out for this.

Reporter Piers Morgan tweeted that Rowling was a “disgraceful liar” for promoting fake news and not correcting herself later.

The latest Rowling tirade unfortunately is not unusual. Too many celebrities today are so blinded by their hatred for the president that they’re falling for false narratives and helping to spread them. They’re outraged before they even know the facts or the full story.

Objecting thoughtfully to the president’s various agenda items is one thing — but criticizing him for false actions is pure lunacy.
