Defending Hillary Clinton against accusations of corruption has become a full-time gig and no doubt a tiring one. If she doesn’t win the election, you can throw in thankless as well.

However, none of that has stopped Clinton’s celebrity supporters from trying desperately to ignore, deflect and cast aside the recent bombshell regarding FBI Director James Comey’s announcement about more potentially damaging Clinton emails.

It’s astounding the level of loyalty liberal celebrities show to their own.

Following the announcement, celebrities immediately got in line to demonize the GOP and Comey and to brush off any potential new controversies that might arrive from Clinton emails — though she already has plenty of those.

“You can’t call someone a ‘criminal’ until they’re tried and convicted, let alone when there isn’t even sufficient evidence to bring charges,” tweeted “Star Trek” actor George Takei following the news. By his account, O.J. Simpson must be unequivocally innocent and Nixon a poor victim of the press.

Cher, who has always been anti-Trump, has been in overdrive.

It appears liberal celebrities received the memo on talking points and had FBI Director James Comey in their sights.

“What is happening today … days before an election by the GOP head of the FBI is disgraceful in its blatant attempt to sway this election,” tweeted actor Josh Gad.

Fellow actor Adam Goldberg kept to the same point, “If it makes anyone feel any better my shrink thinks Comey has handled the whole affair bizarrely from the start. 5¢ please.”

Others simply tried to shrug the damage away as if nothing substantial was actually happening (Clinton’s poll numbers disprove this fantasy).

Who do you think would win the Presidency?

“Daredevil” actor Vincent D’Onofrio tweeted, “It’s relative. There is nothing in the emails that says 2 me Hillary won’t make a good POTUS.Its pretty simple really. There r no laws broken.”

It’s astounding, and almost impressive, the level of loyalty liberal celebrities show to their own. Clinton’s most public supporters would have us believe the world is simply biased against their candidate. Some would even have us believe we are clueless for not being on board with handing the highest office in the land to a proven liar with a sketchy, at best, history as a politician.

In today’s fast-moving digital age with a 24-hour news cycle, biased press and social media, it seems easier for people to toss away political controversies that flirt with law breaking and corruption, something comedian Norm MacDonald pointed out in a recent interview with Larry King.

“Maybe nowadays, Nixon and Watergate would have been a Friday night story that would have disappeared on Monday.”

MacDonald’s reaction may have been the most truthful — but leave it to liberal comedian Albert Brooks to provide a humorous outlook: “If Anthony Weiner’s (private parts) bring down the entire U.S. government I’m going to be so upset.”
