If you were hoping the New Year of 2018 would bring about a change in Hollywood’s politics — you deserve an award for wishful thinking.

Tinseltown’s liberal bias and pure disdain for President Donald Trump and anyone who dared not vote for Hillary Clinton in November 2016 was on full display last year during awards shows like the Golden Globes.

Films recognized by the various ceremonies for their achievements or distinction were overshadowed by polarizing speeches made by celebrities such as Meryl Streep — who will be in attendance again this year.

Her hijacking of the stage at the Globes in 2017 was an especially divisive moment for the country. The left-leaning audience in the room ate up her political words — while much of the rest of the country was likely looking as confused and bored as were Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn in this viral image of them sitting at the same table listening to Streep talk:

Though this year’s Globes have yet to air (that happens on January 7) and officially kick off the busy awards season in Hollywood, it’s already virtually guaranteed the show will be as political as last year’s — film and television projects will once again live in the shadow of Hollywood’s tiresome politics.

“He [Trump] holds the keys to us not talking about him, which would to be to just behave differently,” Globes host Seth Meyers told People in a recent interview about his and other late-night comedians’ focus on Trump and whether the president will be discussed during the upcoming ceremony. “But while he continues on this path, we’ll continue on ours.”

Meyers did try to save face by promising to also hit on recent sexual misconduct scandals in Hollywood.

“With the monologue, as far as talking about anything in the news right now, it seems like this year more than ever Hollywood has its own internal politics that obviously deserve to be talked about,” he said. “Going into it, our focus is far more on the worlds that make these films and less on anything that’s happening in Washington.”

Ahead of this Sunday, multiple women who will be in attendance have promised to wear black in solidarity against sexual harassment in the workplace.

Many of those women have joined the Time’s Up movement — which is looking to combat sexual misconduct within the workplace, especially Hollywood. But some, like Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, have pointed out the organization has political motivations aimed at the president.

“This is not just some beneficent effort to protect women, although the trappings of it are there. This is an obvious and craven attempt by Hollywood leftists to collect email addresses and other information to organize for 2018 and 2020,” she said Tuesday night on “The Ingraham Angle.”

This Sunday’s Globes are sure to be as Trump-focused and politics-heavy as last year’s show, but the program may want to consider trying something fresh: Put the focus back on creative work. Nothing would be more shocking.

The Golden Globes ceremony airs January 7 at 5 p.m. PST/8 p.m. EST on NBC.
