Gene Hackman.
Hackman is one of the most versatile actors to grace the big screen. He starred in everything from “The French Connection” to “Unforgiven.” His final film was unfortunately 2004’s “Welcome to Mooseport.” While not a terrible effort, it wasn’t the kind of vehicle that should have marked Hackman’s retirement from acting, either.

Since his retirement, the now 87-year-old Hackman has written a handful of historical and western novels, the last of which came out in 2013.

Asked in 2011 about possibly doing another film, Hackman told GQ he would consider it “if I could do it in my own house, maybe, without them disturbing anything and just one or two people.” Sounds like there’s not a very good chance of that happening.

Still, Hackman’s colleagues often say how much they miss him. Clint Eastwood, who directed him and co-starred with him in “Unforgiven,” told MTV in 2009, “It is a sad thing. I know his agent and I saw him recently, and he said, ‘Can’t you talk Gene into coming back?’ I said, ‘I’d love to see him come back, but I think it’s not very nice to ride him.’ He’s too good an actor not to be performing, but by the same token, he probably thinks that’s enough.”

Hackman’s other “Unforgiven” costar, Morgan Freeman, told Sirius XM Town Hall, “He’s retired! Silly man.”

The actor added, “You take talent like that away from me! I’m not happy about that.” (click on page 3 for the rest of the story)[lz_pagination]
