4.) Clint Eastwood. Before becoming the Hollywood star and director that he is today, Eastwood knew a thing or two about America and service after being drafted during the Korean War. Since then, Eastwood has shown a penchant for making films that highlight both the heroics and the struggles of military members. From “Letters to Iwo Jima” to “Flags of Our Fathers” to “American Sniper,” Eastwood has shown he has a unique understanding of military service members and a reverence for them as well.

Eastwood next directing project is a film about everyday American heroes who stopped an ISIS member from committing what could have been a horrific terrorist attack on a Paris train in August 2015.

In addition to his military service, Eastwood also spent time in public office as the mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California (for one term, from 1986 to 1988). He still calls Carmel home today.

“I’ve seen a lot of tough eras, a lot of downturns in my life, times when we didn’t understand each other,” said Eastwood in a 2012 Chrysler Super Bowl commercial he wrote himself that was meant to address Americans and inspire them to come together. “It seems that we’ve lost our heart at times. The fog of division, discord, and blame made it hard to see what lies ahead, but after those trials — we all rallied around what was right and acted as one because that’s what we do.
