Christmas Day is not complete without holiday music dancing its way around the house, helping to set the warm and welcoming atmosphere for family and friends.

There’s a near-endless amount of selections, fortunately, when it comes to Christmas music. The holiday season is such a definitive part of the year that every genre of music has put its spin on the well-known classics, and has also made some great originals.

Here’s a look at five albums that will make great soundtracks for your Christmas day and beyond. Enjoy.

1.) “Merry Christmas” (1945) by Bing Crosby. You just can’t go wrong with Bing Crosby tunes, especially such classics as “White Christmas.”

Crosby’s Christmas album is often cited as the greatest holiday collection ever made. His smooth voice seems to shower the listener with the true meaning of Christmas, whether the mood is joyful or more serious.

2.) “Christmas Time Again” (2000) by Lynyrd Skynyrd. That’s right. Lynyrd Skynyrd has a Christmas album. For something a little off the beaten path, “Christmas Time Again” is the perfect choice.

Using a classic rock sound to cover such hits as “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “Santa Claus Wants Some Lovin’,” “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” and more,> Skynyrd’s jump into Christmas music was definitely one of the band’s most interesting efforts.

3.) “Christmas in the Heart” (2009) by Bob Dylan. This is one unique Christmas album, period.

Proceeds from it go completely to charities like Feeding America — it’s difficult to make much of an argument against the existence of this album.

While many have criticized Dylan’s fading voice in recent years and the bizarre mix of his sound with Christmas music on this album, the collection was put together with heart; there’s nothing quite like it.

4.) “Holiday for Swing” (2014) by Seth MacFarlane. MacFarlane’s politics may not win him points with conservative crowds, but his talent as a singer is for real. Thanks to his success with “Family Guy” and other ventures, MacFarlane has been afforded the opportunity to indulge in one of his greatest passions: music. He’s one of the last true crooners out there, challenged perhaps only by Robert Davi as the best around today.

This album was put together with a beautiful and lively orchestra; it’s amazing that albums like this still get made amid so many of the empty pop tunes floating around today.

5.) “Elton John’s Christmas Party” (2005) by Elton John. Of course Elton John has a Christmas album. How could he not?

This album is unique in that it’s not just John performing covers of Christmas classics (as with so many other holiday-themed albums). The musician instead chose to gather the world’s best artists to cover his favorite holiday songs, and included here are performances by Bruce Springsteen, Jimmy Buffett, Chuck Berry, and others.

The album also includes an original Christmas tune from John called “Step Into Christmas.” This is a great collection with enough variety to make just about anyone happy.
