Some Hollywood stars aren’t sure what to say, or share, about Pope Francis’ first visit to the U.S.

Celebrities love to sound off on the latest headlines, like ripping Donald Trump at last week’s Emmys telecast or tweeting barbs against the GOP. But they’re more reserved about Pope Francis — either downright speechless, or they haven’t even noticed that he’s in America.

Those tweeting about the pope is not exactly an A-list crowd. Actress Mia Farrow, for example, has followed the pontiff’s every move via social media and tweeted often.

“Cheers shouts & ovation from Congress for Pope Francis. His talk was a call to conscience for our leaders and for us all,” said the ex-wife of Woody Allen.

Bette Midler, for her part, used his visit for a partisan tweet: “The Pope is visiting the US! He cares for the poor and respects the environment — how long until he’s labeled a ‘dangerous foreign radical?'”

Few others bothered to even notice that Francis had arrived in America for the first time. “Girls” star Lena Dunham, for instance, couldn’t care less. She tweeted this on Thursday:

“Planned Parenthood ain’t just for ladies. Ask @jackantonoff @thesheertruth @SaltyShep @bejohnce @alexkarpovsky”

And Justin Bieber didn’t notice, either. He tweeted to his 67 million followers, “Solid night in the studio. Almost done :).”

Kim Kardashian, in between self-promotional tweets and her standard-issue selfies, she served up the following assessment of the country’s most notable guest: “The Pope is dope,” she tweeted Thursday.

Americans, by and large, agree. They’re drawn by his power, his grace, and, always, the mystery of the papacy. In a day and age when celebrities tweet out their every inane thought, the pope’s stoic quietude enchants people.

Perhaps Alec Baldwin — of all people — put it best when he addressed the hoopla surrounding Francis’ visit. “Many Americans strain to 2 see the Pope, lunge 2 touch him, as there is little that is truly sacred in the American society.”
