It appears the world has finally found the point at which even the Left will call someone out for criticism of President Donald Trump.

After doing a photo shoot in which she’s pictured with a likeness of the bloody, severed head of the president, comedian Kathy Griffin swiftly faced backlash from all sides.

She tried to apologize for the pictures in a video she made; she said she went too far. But the consequences of her actions just keep coming. After seeing the backlash, CNN decided to drop the comedian from its New Year’s Eve coverage, a gig she’d held with the network.

Her usual co-host for the CNN New Year’s Eve shows, Anderson Cooper, condemned the actions of his professional partner through Twitter as well. “For the record, I am appalled by the photo shoot Kathy Griffin took part in,” Cooper wrote. “It is clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate.”

ADT, the biggest security firm in the country, had already dropped its advertising with CNN over the Griffin photos. And a casino in New Mexico has canceled an upcoming appearance by Griffin.

The company Squatty Potty — which makes bathroom products — also dropped Griffin as a spokesperson.

While condemnations from the Left have not been as swift or harsh as those from the Right — even the president and the first lady have now addressed the matter — some people have spoken out.

Chelsea Clinton also chimed in on Twitter, writing, “This is vile and wrong. It is never funny to joke about killing a president.”

Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) even called out Griffin, though he said she deserved forgiveness. “Kathy is a friend and she’s a terrific comedian, but this had no business being in our public discourse,” Franken told CNN’s “New Day.” “And I talked to her. She has apologized … She actually begged for forgiveness, and I believe in forgiveness.”

It’s unfortunate that a stunt involving the mock severed head of the U.S. president is what led to this aha moment: that the political rhetoric coming from Hollywood has gone too far.

And for an idea of just how empty and hypocritical Griffin’s response to this mess has been, take a look at this tweet she wrote back in 2011, after the horrific shooting of Rep. Gabby Giffords (D-Ariz.):

Griffin was essentially saying that the use by the Palin website of target imagery seen on a gun scope incited the violence. Then what exactly did she think her awful picture of Trump would do?

Griffin’s apology today is too little, too late: A behind-the-scenes video TMZ posted shows the comedian joking around with photographer Tyler Shields and saying they’d need to run to Mexico to avoid being arrested once their photo made the rounds.

Griffin knew what she was doing. She knew how incendiary her actions were. Her apology merely reflects her surprise that many of her leftist friends — in addition to those on the Right — would object to her insults.
