Something odd happened to actor James Woods on the Fourth of July: He was dropped by his talent agent.

“It’s the 4th of July and I’m feeling patriotic,” wrote Woods’ agent in an email the actor posted to his Twitter account.

Woods sports a million-and-a-half followers there.

“I don’t want to represent you anymore,” the agent went on. “I mean I can go on a rant but you know what I’d say.”

Woods, a two-time Academy Award nominee, called his former agent, Ken Kaplan, a “political liberal” in his tweet.

He then posted his email response to Kaplan.

“Dear Ken, I don’t actually. I was thinking if you’re feeling patriotic, you would appreciate free speech and one’s right to think as an individual. Be that as it may, I want to thank you for all your hard work and devotion on my behalf. Be well,” wrote Woods.

Though Kaplan’s email to Woods doesn’t explicitly state that politics are the reason for dropping the actor, it’s not difficult to read between the lines. It’s also not difficult to see which man conducted himself with more professionalism or civility.

The blacklisting of conservatives in Hollywood has been an issue Woods has been incredibly open about in the last few years. He has even suggested in the past that the slowing of his own acting gigs in recent years is connected to his coming out as a conservative.

Woods’ filmography includes gigs on such top-rated TV shows as “Family Guy” and “Ray Donovan,” as well as roles in such cult classics as David Cronenberg’s “Videodrome” and Martin Scorsese’s “Casino.”
