Celebrities couldn’t resist the urge to use International Women’s Day as a platform to go political.

With the ‘Day Without a Woman’ protest irresponsibly marked for the same day, Wednesday was a day all about preaching and protesting for some celebs — instead of a day for highlighting the value of accomplished women everywhere.

Madonna, Beyoncé, John Legend, and plenty of others signed an open letter that took a shot at President Donald Trump — and said that recent Cabinet appointments have put women “at risk.”

“Recent legislation and rhetoric have put decades of progress for girls and women at risk,” read the letter, issued on behalf of the Global Citizen and Chime for Change organizations. “All over the world, women are on the front lines fighting for our future. Yet millions of girls and women are still denied basic equal rights. And recent policies and appointments in the United States jeopardize its position as a global leader and positive role model on human rights.”

Meanwhile, companies like the Hollywood agency UTA, MTV, and Fusion all took part in the women’s strike.

Surprisingly, some of the celebrity preaching came from men who somehow felt the need to jump on a soapbox on a day that had nothing at all to do with them.

Not every public figure used the day as an opportunity to jam politics down people’s throats. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady used the day as an excuse to simply thank all the women in his life.

“To the love of my life, @gisele, my mom, my sisters, my nieces and my little Girlie Girl — thank you for bringing so much love and joy to my life. And thank you for being such great examples of compassion and empathy. The world needs much more of it! I love you all!!” wrote Brady on his Instagram account.

President Trump also sent out positive words for the day, but some just couldn’t let the moment pass without their rage showing.

Late night host Samantha Bee wrote on Twitter in response, “I wonder how many drafts it took for him to not include ‘except for f***** Rosie O’Donnell.'”

O’Donnell, for her part, kept her well-documented Trump obsession going by tweeting to him that he was a “demented creep.”

Helpful, that.

Bee also tweeted, “The Trump WH is so feminist, EVERY day is Day Without a Woman.” The tweet ignored the fact that women such as Ivanka Trump, Betsy DeVos, Kellyanne Conway, and many others are playing vital roles in the new administration.
