With her latest tasteless stunt, actress and comedienne Bette Midler may be entertaining a knock at the door from the Secret Service.
In response to the attempt by Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) to derail passage of the federal budget yesterday — which could have led to another government shutdown — Midler crassly suggested the solution to Paul’s hour-long delay was a physical attack on him from behind.
Last November, Sen. Paul suffered multiple displaced rib fractures and additional potentially life-threatening medical complications when he was attacked from behind by neighbor Rene Boucher.
Paul was mowing his lawn and wearing headphones when his frustrated neighbor allegedly took issue with the technique Paul had used to stack twigs on the senator's own property.
Boucher was charged with assaulting a member of Congress, a felony, a few weeks ago.
Though Boucher signed a federal plea agreement on the matter, no date has yet been set yet to accept his guilty plea, NBC News reported, citing Josh J. Minkler, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Indiana.
Midler may need more than a little hocus-pocus to talk her way out of this one.
Few fans found her call for violence funny, despite what she may or may not have intended.
