The Beach Boys, famous for such classic tunes as “Surfin’ U.S.A.” and “Good Vibrations,” are set to play the Texas “Black Tie and Boots” inaugural ball on Jan. 19, according to a report in The Washington Post.

The event, which has reportedly sold more than 10,000 tickets, is held at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center. The Texas State Society’s ball was most popular during George W. Bush’s first inauguration in 2001.

Other performers include Bonnie Bishop, Jason Eady, Jason Boland, Larry Gatlin, Kevin Fowler, Kenny Maines, Gary P. Nunn, Dean Dillon, Texas Jam Band, and Tanya Tucker.

The most notable attendee will be Donald Trump’s nominee for secretary of state, Rex Tillerson. Other attendees will include Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Trump’s pick for secretary of energy, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

That The Beach Boys will be playing at an inaugural ball comes as no surprise. Founding band member Mike Love gave other whiny musicians and frightened performers a lesson when he told The Post back in September about the possibility of playing for the president-elect at the inauguration, “He’s been a friend for a long time. Does it mean I agree with everything he says? No.”

Love added, “If we were asked [to play the inauguration], I’m sure that we would.”

They may not be playing at the actual inauguration — but it’s good to know The Beach Boys will share their talents at an inaugural event. They are proving by their very agreement to perform that being involved in the country’s peaceful transition of power has nothing to do with politics — and everything to do with being unified, celebrating this country, and showing respect for the office of the presidency.
