Political preaching and cultural fear-mongering seem to know no bounds today. It can be tough keeping up with the foolishness and hypocrisy out of the mouths of the Hollywood elite.

Given that truth, we’ve rounded up for the third week in a row some recent and outrageous statements and actions from pop culture figures who have a message — and the wilfulness to spread their points far and wide, come what may. (To check out installments one and two, click here and here.)

Charlie Sheen, “Two and a Half Men” actor and tabloid favorite, proved on Wednesday that there really is no code of conduct in the treatment of future president Trump. The actor posted a tweet, which is now pinned to the top of his account, that had many followers in an uproar. “Dear God; Trump next, please!” Sheen then repeated the phrase five more times for good measure and threw in a middle finger emoji.

The tweet was referring to the recent losses of public figures like Carrie Fisher, Debbie Reynolds, and George Michael. Sheen’s never been one to toe any normal lines of respect, but his tweet goes to show how deeply the rules of respect for the presidency are being rewritten with Donald Trump about to take office. If a conservative actor posted this about Obama, the media would be in a downright uproar that someone would speak about the president in such a way. Words like “treason” and “harassment” would be thrown out. “Hate-monger” would be a popular term. Since Sheen is speaking about Trump — nothing, predictable radio silence about the actor wishing the next president dead.

It’s not always politics that prove Hollywood fixtures are out of touch. Some prove they live in a bubble by talking like aliens with their heads far in the clouds, far away from the day-to-day struggles of normal citizens.

Gwyneth Paltrow, who once commented that it was harder being an actress who gets paid millions and works part of the year than being a mom juggling a full-time office job and kids, gave an interview with InStyle magazine where she patted herself on the back for being a “trailblazer.”

When Paltrow and former husband Chris Martin filed for divorce, it was referred to as a “conscious uncoupling.” It wasn’t much of a surprise from an actress that preaches extreme health tips and often says things only someone living in a coastal bubble could believe. What did surprise was her glowing appreciation of herself displayed in the interview.

“I honestly think Chris and I have contributed something positive to the culture of divorce,” said Paltrow. In regard to public criticism that she seems so out of sync with day-to-day life, Paltrow said, “I’m like, this is my role. I’m here to do this. A friend told me if you’re a trailblazer, you’re the first one through and you get the cuts because you’re hacking the path.” I guess this is where we bow down and say thank you, but no thank you and walk away.

Alec Baldwin has moved himself safely back into the good graces of the media with his “Saturday Night Live” impersonations of Donald Trump. Baldwin’s Trump attacks may, however, be starting to be getting a little out of control. The “30 Rock” actor used Carrie Fisher’s passing this week as a cheap opportunity to take a swipe at the president-elect.

As always, let us not fret too much over the airheadedness out of Hollywood.

“Death comes in threes. Carrie Fisher George Michael The integrity of the Oval Office,” tweeted the actor on Tuesday.

If you don’t like Trump, that’s your call — but is using the death of a popular star as a platform to take a low blow at the man really the best way to criticize what you disagree with? It’s not just bizarre — it’s creepy. And it shows there may not be a low in the integrity of arguments against Trump.

As always, let us not fret too much over the airheadedness to come out of pop culture influencing Hollywood. The new year is right around the corner and that means new opportunities and a chance for hope.

And so, to end things on a positive note …
Let us turn our attention toward musician Taylor Swift. On Monday, Swift surprised her oldest fan by showing up at his home and putting on a personal performance. The 96-year-old World War II veteran named Cyrus Porter was more than a little surprised. Family members posted videos and pictures to social media, with one calling it a “Christmas miracle.”

Porter told local news outlet KFVS12 his appreciation of Swift’s music has helped him to connect with his 12 grandchildren. He had already seen the singer twice in concert and hopes to see her one more time. “I just enjoyed going to see ’em and her,” said Porter. “I would as soon go see her right now as anybody!”

The singer performed “Shake it Off” and other well-known hits during the course of the show.
