It’s a match made in political heaven. Dave Matthews of jam-band fame will join Hillary’s veep pick, harmonica-playing Tim Kaine, for a concert and voter registration drive on Monday, Oct. 10, in Colorado.

The event will be held at the National Western Complex stadium arena and admission is free. No doubt plenty of granola-crunching, Birkenstock-wearing, marijuana-toking fans will flock to the scene.

“It’s expected to break the world record for largest gathering of dudes in sandals.”

Both campaigns have paid more attention to Colorado in recent weeks as some polls have shown a particularly tight race there.

Jokes started flying as soon as the gig was announced.

Cracked the Comedy Central Twitter feed: “Tim Kaine will campaign with Dave Matthews in Denver. It’s expected to break the world record for largest gathering of dudes in sandals.”

Others on Twitter had ripe comments, too:

Dave Matthews recently celebrated his band’s 25th anniversary with a 46-date tour, but the group has already announced it’s taking a break from the road in 2017.

This past weekend, Matthews performed at Harry Belafonte’s Many Rivers to Cross social justice festival outside of Atlanta, along with Macklemore, Public Enemy, and T.I.

Matthews rarely spoke about the justice and peace themes of the festival, reported the AJC.com music blog. He said his mother is far more “aggressively” political than he is, and added she was thrilled when Belafonte invited him to be part of this music festival.
