If you’re concerned about the effects of global warming on the Earth — you can now rest easy. Former Vice President Al Gore is back on the case.

The trailer to “An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power” has been released, and Al Gore has put himself front and center again in the fight against climate change.

The movie serves as a sequel to the box office hit “An Inconvenient Truth,” the 2006 global warming documentary that made over $50 million worldwide and earned an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.

The new film already debuted at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and earned mostly positive reviews. Gore and his producers have so much confidence in the sequel, they’re giving it a competitive summer release date of July 28. It will open against “Atomic Bomb” starring Charlize Theron and “The Dark Tower,” which is based on the best-selling book series by Stephen King.

Here’s the trouble with this supreme confidence, however: “An Inconvenient Truth” became a smash hit before Gore’s reputation was muddied. Since the first film’s release, Gore has been shown mostly to be yet another environmentalist hypocrite.

Gore not only lives a millionaire’s lifestyle that puts most middle-Americans to shame, but his behavior has suggested someone who will say one thing but do another.

The first “Inconvenient Truth” was criticized for being partly filmed on a private jet. Gore also came under scrutiny when he sold Current TV to Al Jazeera and oil tycoons for millions upon millions of dollars — a deal he pushed through at a speedy pace in order to avoid paying a higher tax rate.

Beyond his personal life and business decisions, Gore’s activism has gotten a little questionable as well. He’s recently taken to blaming terrorism on global warming.

In a “CBS This Morning” interview, he said rising temperatures tend to lead to extreme ideologies. He said, “Human beings are placed under strain” and “then bad things happen. And if you look at world history, whenever people are desperate … that’s when ideologies arise that are dangerous.”

Gore also said at the 2017 Advertising Week Europe in London that global warming was a “principle case” of the Syrian civil war and of Brexit.

Calling temperature changes a principle cause for terrorism and certain ideologies is likely not the best way to win over supporters for one’s cause. Gore’s recent talking points and his controversial behavior have made the “South Park” episode entitled “ManBearPig” — which poked fun at his activism — seem all the more real.

The strangest thing about the trailer to his latest film is its focus on President Donald Trump. Gore and others are seen watching in disbelief some speeches made by the president. However, Gore had a meeting with Trump in December — and had previously said the two had found areas to agree on when it came to climate change.

“He was receptive to some of what I had to say, and I appreciated that,” Gore told The Hollywood Reporter after the meeting. He also revealed the two had kept in contact after parting ways.
